Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information MSMN News may collect, how it may be used, when it may be shared, how cookies and similar technologies work, and the choices available to visitors.
It should be read together with our Cookie Notice (https://martinsstudiotv.com/media/legal/cookies) and Terms of Use (https://martinsstudiotv.com/media/legal/terms).
By using MSMN News, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy.
This policy is written for visitors. It is not a substitute for legal advice. Martins Studio Media Network may update it as the website, advertising, analytics or applicable law changes.
1. WHO WE ARE
MSMN News is a digital news and media publication operated by Martins Studio Media Network (“MSMN”, “we”, “us”, “our”).
We publish news, current affairs, entertainment, sports, features, interviews, opinions, photographs, videos and other digital media.
The data controller for this website is Martins Studio Media Network. For privacy questions or requests, use the Contact portal or email media@martinsstudiotv.com.
2. WHAT THIS POLICY COVERS
This policy covers the public MSMN News website at https://martinsstudiotv.com/media and related public features (reading articles, comments where enabled, newsletter sign-up, contact forms, optional analytics, advertising, and browser notifications where offered).
It does not control the privacy practices of third-party websites, social platforms, advertisers or embedded players. Those services have their own policies.
3. INFORMATION WE MAY COLLECT
The information collected depends on how you use MSMN News. You do not generally need to provide personal information simply to read articles.
A. Information collected automatically
When you visit, our website, hosting provider, security tools and (where permitted) analytics or advertising partners may process:
- IP address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Device type and screen size
- Language and time zone
- Approximate geographic or regional information (city/region/country level)
- Referring website and campaign tags (including UTM parameters)
- Pages viewed, links clicked and time on page
- Date and time of visits
- Error and diagnostic information
- A first-party visitor identifier stored in your browser (msmn_vid) and a session identifier used to understand return visits and live audience activity
- A limited device fingerprint derived from technical attributes (for example screen size, language and time zone) used to distinguish sessions and reduce duplicate counts — not used to identify you by name
This first-party audience data powers MSMN’s own live-visitor and traffic tools (including Live Visitors / visitor map in the newsroom). It is not sold as a standalone product.
B. Optional analytics (Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity)
Where you accept optional analytics, we may use:
- Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to measure traffic, sources, page views and site performance. IP anonymization is enabled in our GA4 configuration.
- Microsoft Clarity to understand how pages are used. Clarity may record session interactions such as clicks, scrolling and page heatmaps to help us improve the site.
These tools only load after optional analytics consent where our consent banner is shown. Essential cookies still work if you reject analytics.
C. Information you provide voluntarily
If you use a form, newsletter, comments, account, or browser notification prompt, we may collect:
- Name
- Email address
- Message or enquiry
- Newsletter preference
- Comment text and related moderation data
- A web-push subscription token if you allow browser notifications
- Any other information you choose to send
Please do not send sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your enquiry.
D. Advertising information
MSMN News may display Google AdSense and other authorized advertising. Advertising partners may use cookies, pixels, IP addresses and similar technologies as described in sections 5–7. Our public analytics consent banner currently grants or denies analytics storage; it does not currently switch on personalized advertising storage. Personalized ads, if used later, will only run where permitted by law and a suitable consent choice.
E. Affiliate and commercial links
Where Amazon Associates or other affiliate links appear, the destination site and affiliate network may process click and purchase information under their own policies so that MSMN can receive a commission on qualifying purchases.
4. HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We use information for legitimate editorial, technical, operational and business purposes, including:
- Operating and securing MSMN News
- Publishing and delivering news and media
- Measuring audience and improving the reading experience
- Responding to enquiries and managing subscriptions
- Moderating comments and preventing spam or abuse
- Diagnosing faults and monitoring performance
- Displaying advertising and measuring ad performance
- Complying with law and protecting our rights
We do not sell personal information as a standalone commercial product.
Where GDPR, UK GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on one or more of these legal bases:
- Legitimate interests — operating a news website, security, fraud prevention, audience measurement that is necessary to run the publication, and first-party traffic tools
- Consent — optional analytics (GA4 and Clarity) and, where required, non-essential advertising cookies or newsletters
- Contract / steps prior to contract — if you submit a form or subscribe to a service we must process the details to respond
- Legal obligation — where we must keep or disclose records
Where Nigeria’s NDPR applies, we process personal data in line with that regulation, including lawfulness, purpose limitation and your rights of access, correction and deletion.
5. COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES
MSMN News uses cookies, local storage, pixels and similar technologies.
Essential technologies may include the session cookie (msmn_session), security/CSRF tokens, and basic load and preference storage needed for the site to work.
Optional analytics cookies and similar technologies (GA4 and Microsoft Clarity) are described in our Cookie Notice and are controlled by the on-site consent choice where that banner is shown.
Advertising technologies may be set by Google or other ad partners when ads are shown.
Browser local storage may hold msmn_vid (visitor id), theme/install preferences, and analytics consent (msmn_analytics_consent).
Full categories are listed in the Cookie Notice: https://martinsstudiotv.com/media/legal/cookies
You can also control cookies in your browser. Blocking essential cookies may affect login or form submission.
6. GOOGLE ADVERTISING
MSMN News may use Google AdSense and other Google advertising products.
Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses and similar technologies to serve ads, measure ads, prevent ad fraud, limit how often you see the same ad, and — where permitted by law and consent — provide personalized advertising.
Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on visits to MSMN News or other websites.
Google processes this information under Google’s own policies. Review Google’s information for sites that use Google services, and Google Ads Settings, for advertising preferences.
7. PERSONALIZED AND NON-PERSONALIZED ADS
Ads on MSMN News may be personalized or non-personalized depending on location, law, Google’s configuration and your choices.
Personalized advertising may use permitted information to show more relevant ads.
Non-personalized advertising is typically based on contextual information (for example the page you are reading) rather than a long-term advertising profile.
If we do not have a valid advertising consent where the law requires one, we will not treat that as permission for personalized advertising.
8. CONSENT AND YOUR CHOICES
Where the law requires consent, we provide a consent mechanism.
Our public banner currently asks whether you accept optional analytics (Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity). Essential cookies stay on either way.
You may be able to change that choice by clearing site data for martinsstudiotv.com or using browser cookie controls. If we add a fuller privacy settings panel, it will be linked from this page and the Cookie Notice.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland may see additional cookie or advertising choices where required.
Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before you withdrew consent.
9. ANALYTICS IN MORE DETAIL
GA4 may collect page views, traffic sources, device category and similar measurement events.
Microsoft Clarity may collect interaction data and session recordings/heatmaps of public pages after analytics consent.
We use this to understand which stories are read, how people find MSMN News, and how to improve the site. We do not use Clarity recordings to publish identifiable private correspondence.
10. SOCIAL MEDIA, VIDEO AND EMBEDS
Pages may include links or embeds from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, Threads and similar platforms.
If you play a video or interact with an embed, that platform may collect information under its own policy. MSMN does not control those practices.
11. COMMENTS, NEWSLETTERS, CONTACT AND NOTIFICATIONS
Comments: if comments are enabled, we store the comment, time, and information needed to moderate spam or abuse.
Newsletters: if you subscribe, we use your email to send the requested updates and to honour unsubscribe requests.
Contact portal: messages sent via https://martinsstudiotv.com/media/contact are kept so we can reply, keep records and protect the service.
Browser notifications: if you allow web push, your browser provides a subscription token so we can send optional news alerts. You can revoke this in browser settings.
12. HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION
We may share information with service providers who help us run MSMN News, including:
- Website hosting and infrastructure
- Security and content-delivery networks
- Analytics providers (Google, Microsoft Clarity)
- Advertising providers (including Google)
- Email or form delivery providers
- Professional advisers
- Authorities where the law requires it
We share only what is needed for that purpose. We do not sell personal information as a product.
13. LEGAL DISCLOSURE
We may disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, investigate abuse or fraud, protect users or the website, or enforce our Terms.
14. RETENTION
We keep information only as long as needed for the purpose collected, or as required by law.
Typical periods:
- Server, security and audience logs: about 90 days, unless a longer period is needed for security, dispute or legal reasons
- Newsletter records: while the subscription is active, and for a short period after unsubscribe to honour the request
- Contact messages: for as long as needed to handle the enquiry and keep a reasonable record
- Comments: while the comment remains published, and for moderation history as needed
- Analytics data: according to GA4 and Clarity retention settings
When data is no longer required we delete, anonymise or securely dispose of it.
15. SECURITY
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures, including access controls, HTTPS, secure hosting and monitoring. No website or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
16. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
Some providers (including Google, Microsoft and our hosting stack) may process information outside the country where you live.
Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the provider’s contractual terms, adequacy decisions or other lawful transfer tools.
17. CHILDREN
MSMN News is a general-audience news site. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or a higher age where local law requires parental consent).
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact media@martinsstudiotv.com so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
18. YOUR RIGHTS
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Withdraw consent where we rely on consent
- Data portability where applicable
- Complain to a data-protection authority
These rights are subject to legal limits. For Nigeria this includes NDPR rights. For the EEA/UK this includes GDPR / UK GDPR rights. For California, we do not sell personal information; “sharing” for cross-context advertising, if it occurs through ad partners, can be managed through Google Ads Settings and browser controls.
To exercise rights, email media@martinsstudiotv.com or use the Contact portal. We may need to verify the request.
19. THIRD-PARTY SITES
Links to other websites are not endorsements. Their privacy policies apply once you leave MSMN News.
20. CHANGES
We may update this policy when our site, providers or the law changes. The updated text will be published on this page with a new “Last Updated” date.
